The Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy is a program that focuses on African-American young women between the ages of 11 – 14 in grades 6 – 8. Delta chapters across the world are teaching young women how to be healthy, ambitious and confident leaders, as they strive for academic excellence. The objective of the Delta Academy youth program of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Inc., Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter is to serve as a mentoring program with a focus on activities that will sharpen and enhance the skills of young African-American women and prepare them for full participation as leaders in the 21st century. We want our young women to embrace their girl power on purpose. After each session we want our young women to leave with feelings of positivity and empowerment, ready to take on the world with their black girl magic.
In addition, there will be opportunities for Delta Academy participants to receive STEM (Science, Engineers, Technology and Math) instruction and take field trips (pending approval). The program and activities of Delta Academy will be accomplished through regular monthly interactive learning workshops, programs and activities from September 2019 through June 2020.
