EMBODI

The EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence) program is designed to focus the efforts of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., with the support and action of other major organizations, on the plight of African American males. Both informal and empirical data suggests that the vast majority of African American males continue to be in crisis and are not reaching their fullest potential educationally, socially and emotionally.

In an effort to combat this challenge, the Philadelphia Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. has formed solid collaborative partnerships with local schools and civic and fraternal organizations to implement and provide a male mentoring program to high school age students (13-18).  Through monthly group mentoring sessions, trips and physical activity sessions, the participants are consistently exposed to a variety of academic, cultural, and personal development activities.

EMBODI is designed for young men with one or more of the following characteristics:

  • Possess potential, but limited opportunity to achieve success.
  • Interested in developing leadership skills.
  • Interested in video games, computers, technology and or sports.
  • Enjoy learning new things and meeting new people.
